DSI/DOS Corner

We had quite some excitement here when we got reports that systems using the Genoa Super Hires EGA board would freeze randomly within an EMME/2 session. The problem became evident with the (newer) BIOS-level 7 board (VGA compatible), especially when used with a mouse. Calling the responsible engineer from Genoa, he indeed confirmed that their product had a problem and that they were working to solve it. Tests showed that the same bug also occurs on level 5 boards, but much less often. This was in April. As of now, we are still waiting for a fix from Genoa.

In the mean time we have switched most of our systems from the Genoa to the Video-7 VEGA VGA. These boards have performed flawlessly ever since. Users have reported that in Europe some VEGA VGA boards are sold that do not pass their own diagnostic program that is distributed along with the board. These boards will not work with EMME/2 either, so make sure to run the diagnostic program first.
